When do we realise we've grown up?
Thursday, September 24, 2009
At 33, I don’t feel my age. Neither do I truly act my age.
But recently I’ve been thinking…
At which point in our lives do we realize we’ve grown up or grown old?
Is it when you’ve paid your first bill?
Is it when you decide that you’d rather stay home than go out clubbing?
Is it when you think “Damn, it’s late!” and it’s not even 10pm?
Is it when you feel sleeping-in is such a waste of time and waking up early is not too bad after all?
Is it when you look forward to having meaningful conversations with friends over coffee than mindless socializing with idle chatter?
Is it when your social life takes a backseat to work?
Is it when you’ve bought your first car?
Is it when you’ve bought your first property?
Is it when you think about marriage?
Is it when you don’t think about marriage?
Is it when you feel like you can’t do the things you used to do when you were young?
Is it when you realize you’re not the person you used to be?
Is it when things trivial to you then are important to you now?
Is it when things important to you then are trivial to you now?
Is it when you know your memory isn’t what it used to be?
Is it when you're not concerned about being seen eating alone in public?
Is it when you think, “There’s so much more to life than just this?”
Is it when you’re not afraid to just keep the few friends that matter and lose the many that don’t?
Is it when you don’t really care what people think?
Hence, have I grown up yet?

"Grown up" is a brand.
I believe in cherish every moment in life, be content with what you have and to love those who love you is more important than to be branded as "grown up" by whatever it means and how much it cost.

At 40, i dont feel or look like my age either.. indeed I look much younger than my age..
I believe we all are growing up (not in terms of age) at certain specific time(s) or those defining moments /turning points in our lives:-
1. The moment we were born..
2. The moment we entered kindergarten / primary school..
3. The moment we entered secondary school..
4. The moment we entered college/university..
5. The moment we had our very first love..
6. The moment we had our very first break-up..
7. The moment we get married..
8. The moment we had our very 1st child..
9. The moment we find our very true sense of purpose in life..
The list can go on & on...
Its all about our life's perspective & how we come to terms with it... Most importantly we must live life to the fullest & celebrate each day that we are alive!
