How’d you like to fly through the air with the greatest of ease on a trapeze?
Well, I got a chance to try something pretty close to that at the Jukari – Fly With The Stars by Reebok event which was held at the Chi Fitness outlet in Centro Klang. Reebok was very kind enough to sponsor head-to-toe outfits for their invited personalities(among them The Chong sisters, Vanessa & Pamela; Sasha Bashir; Miss Malaysia..) – including yours truly – as we were all to participate in a Jukari work-out demonstration.
According to the press release I received, “JUKARI Fit to Fly makes fitness fun again by introducing a new way to move in a gym workout and is accessible to all women, regardless of fitness levels. The hour-long workout has been created on a specially-designed piece of equipment called the FlySet. The result is a workout that gives the sensation of flying while strengthening and lengthening the body through cardio, strength, balance and core training.”
And I can tell you that right now, my core and frankly the rest of my body is in so much pain. Good pain, though. The kind that you get when your body tells you in no subtle way that you simply have not been working out enough. Which is why Jukari is good – you don’t have to already be a fitness nut to do the work-out.
And it’s not just any work-out. It’s based on a partnership with none other than world renowned entertainment company, Cirque du Soleil (Circus of the Sun). Which is why you work with a trapeze or what they call the Fly Set.
The FlySet
And as Malaysians, we should be proud of the fact that after Canada and South Korea, we’re the third country that has launched this innovative and entertaining work-out, teaming up exclusively with Clark Hatch International Group.
The Jukari classroom at Chi Fitness, Centro Klang
Rodney, our Jukari instructor, started things off by giving us the basic steps using the FlySet: the shuffle – where we would move around in a circle, lunges, bridge, etc… before actually going into the full-on workout.
And let me warn you, as an observer, it only looks easy. The Cirque du Soleil performers also make it look easy. But after having gone through the hour long class, you realise and appreciate how much effort it takes. and how much it works your whole body. It's great for toning and stretching and although my body is screaming in agony, I would want to do it again.

The good news is that if you feel Klang is too much of a stretch for you to travel to, then if all goes according to schedule, you'll be able to experience this hot new fitness regime in Bangsar when Reebok & Clark Hatch International Group launch Jukari in the next Chi Fitness centre there in the new wing of BSC next year in March. (Certainly, when we were told this piece of news, we all heaved a big sigh of relief.)
