At 33, I don’t feel my age. Neither do I truly act my age.
But recently I’ve been thinking…
At which point in our lives do we realize we’ve grown up or grown old?
Is it when you’ve paid your first bill?
Is it when you decide that you’d rather stay home than go out clubbing?
Is it when you think “Damn, it’s late!” and it’s not even 10pm?
Is it when you feel sleeping-in is such a waste of time and waking up early is not too bad after all?
Is it when you look forward to having meaningful conversations with friends over coffee than mindless socializing with idle chatter?
Is it when your social life takes a backseat to work?
Is it when you’ve bought your first car?
Is it when you’ve bought your first property?
Is it when you think about marriage?
Is it when you don’t think about marriage?
Is it when you feel like you can’t do the things you used to do when you were young?
Is it when you realize you’re not the person you used to be?
Is it when things trivial to you then are important to you now?
Is it when things important to you then are trivial to you now?
Is it when you know your memory isn’t what it used to be?
Is it when you're not concerned about being seen eating alone in public?
Is it when you think, “There’s so much more to life than just this?”
Is it when you’re not afraid to just keep the few friends that matter and lose the many that don’t?
Is it when you don’t really care what people think?
Hence, have I grown up yet?
