4 Play 4 Feats - KL Tower

So it’s week 3 and it was now time for both JD & I to partake in the next challenge. So as usual, we asked our listeners to make their suggestions especially one that would help us lose weight as we'd both been putting on some since our Shake Our Hand days. And one of the more recurring ones were for us to climb Batu Caves. Which we thought, ok, sounds good. Neither one of us has done it before. Then another suggestion came in from Linda and Habeeb who said why not we climb up the Kl Tower instead? It’d be great exercise! After doing some research, we found that that would involve us going up all 2058 steps to get to the top of the tower!
And to top it all off, the CEO of Menara KL, Datuk Zulkifli Mohamad spoke to us on-air personally inviting us as well so how could we decline?
On Friday, we found ourselves staring up at the tower thinking to ourselves “OMG! What did we get ourselves into???”. It was only at that point, our necks craned upwards, did we realize just how HIGH the tower really was. There was no backing out now!
Just before the actual climb, we had to go to security to fill out some indemnity forms and get our tags. They wished us good luck for the climb. Yeah, we needed it!
Also, to our pleasant surprise, we found two of our loyal fans, Mimi Amirah & her dad, Aziz, waiting for us there to give us their support. Wow!
We were greeted by KL Tower management who were there to make sure everything went smoothly. Turns out climbing up KL Tower is serious stuff as they had kindly arranged for us two paramedics to accompany us during the climb in case anything untoward happened. Oh dear.
It started out easily enough. Slow and steady was the mantra. But after 3 flights of stairs, we were steadily slowing down. Could feel the pain and fire in our thighs and I remember I was having doubtful thoughts of whether I could really do this.
We weren’t doing this alone though. Some of the KL Tower management staff actually followed us along with the paramedics.. and 11 year old Mimi (who wasn’t even breaking a sweat!).
Luckily, there were rest-stops along the way where we thankfully had time to gasp for air and gulp down some much needed water. Cos as we progressed higher up the tower, the air was wearing thin.
It started out with JD ahead of the game but I was able to catch up and overtake him coz surprisingly, his stamina was wearing down. And plus, I totally forgot to warm-up before the climb and only did so at the first rest-stop.
It took us 45 mins to get to the top and to be honest, we didn’t care how long it took. We just wanted to get it over with! But I can tell you that it was sweet victory for us when we did…
We really have to thank the lovely people of KL Tower management and of course, Datuk Zulkifli, for agreeing to let us climb the tower and for taking care of us before, during and after the climb. It has to be said that those steps are not usually open to the public so for them to grant us permission is very humbling indeed.
