We Malaysians are a very lazy lot, aren’t we? We take things for granted because we expect someone else is going to do the work because it’s “their job”.
I get cheesed off in the mornings when I enter the pantry. Why? Because the sink and counter top is usually filled with unwashed mugs, cups and plates. Why? Because we have a tea/cleaning lady who cleans it up. Come oooooonnn!!! Just because we have her is no excuse for you to act like little kids who don’t know how to clean up after themselves. Wash your own friggin’ mugs for pete’s sake! Lazy buggers. Itu pun nak kena ajar ke?
Have you ever thought that her job is not JUST to make drinks and clean up the pantry? Have you not noticed that she also has to vacuum the entire floor, throw away all the trash from each of our waste baskets (and there are MANY of us), wipe our cubicles, etc… and she’s just ONE person! She’s no spring chicken either! Kesian lah dia!
And it’s not just office pantries. You know how horrendous some of our public toilets are, right? I have a sneaky suspicion that it’s because people think “Aiyah… the cleaners will take care of it. It’s their job, what.” I can imagine that if I were one of those cleaners, I’d be thinking “Nak flush pun tak tau!”. I really commend people who work as cleaners especially the ones from our part of the world who have to deal with such nonsense. As it is, they have to clean up after everyone else’s mess. It’s not the most pleasant job out there so we should try to make it more tolerable by being more civic-minded.
I figure the people who throw trash out of their windows while driving also have the same mental mentality – “Oh, got street sweepers who’ll clean it up. Give them something to do”. Tsk. What is wrong with keeping a little plastic bag in your car and throwing your empty drink containers/tissue/cigarette packets, etc.. first and then disposing of them properly at home???
I know we give Singapore a lot of flack for fining anyone and everything for any misdemeanor but right now, it really doesn’t seem like such a bad idea…
