Reunions

Tuesday, December 8, 2009

Ever had a best friend from your childhood you always had fond memories of whom you hadn’t met in 21 years? I did. And I had the wonderful opportunity of reuniting with her again last weekend.

I have to say “thank you” to Facebook for helping to make it happen. She found me and added me as a friend and we were able to keep in touch from time to time after having lost touch until about just over a year ago.

By happy chance, she and her hubby had a mutual friend who was getting married in Singapore that Hari Raya Haji weekend and she wanted to make the trip across the Causeway to see me and she was willing to miss dinner with the couple in order to do so.

So through Facebook, I sent her some links to catch either the Aeroline bus or First Coach and she chose the former and so on Saturday at 1:25pm, I saw for the first time in 21 years, my friend, Lakshmy Balakrishnan and her hubby Dinesh, step out of the bus and I hurried over to them and without hesitation, gave her a big hug.

She still looked the same to me. She had the exact same features as I remembered her to have aside from the fact that she had cut her long locks short.

 Lakshmy & Dinesh

I took them straight to Pavilion to dine at where else but Grandmama’s where I wanted to introduce them to some local cuisine which I knew would be great and in a comfortable setting. Lakshmy and I had the Assam Laksa while Dinesh opted for the Beef Kuey Teow. We polished it off with some dessert – Coconut pudding and Cendol. And silly me, even tho I had a camera, completely forgot to take any pictures of the food coz we were all so engrossed in conversation.

There was so much to catch up on and barely any pauses in between when we chatted but we only had a few hours left together before I had to drop them off at the Corus Hotel so they could catch the last Aeroline bus back to Singapore.

So after lunch, I took them back to show them where I lived and I introduced to some local kopi-o which was perfect to have coz it had started to rain. Managed to avoid the jam and got them at the hotel 5 mins before the bus had to leave and before I knew it, the day had gone and so had they.

Out of all the colours we had decided to wear that day, we BOTH ended up on wearing turquoise!!

I’m now seriously contemplating on visiting them in London upon their invitation. Time to start saving…!
