Happy Birthday To Us!

On Tuesday Dec 15th 2009, JD & I officially turned one.

One year ago, when the station started going through some changes, we were asked to helm the Red FM Breakfast Show. We were practically quaking in our shoes at the thought. To be honest, we were rather reluctant to leave our comfortable position on the Red Evening Drive but only because we didn't think we were worthy enough of the responsibility, but in the end, we decided to take up the challenge and also because our bosses said they saw some potential in us. So we thought "Ok.. let's do it" and hopefully prove them right.

It boggles our minds that we managed to survive doing the show with each other because it hasn't all been easy. It's not happy-happy joy-joy all the time. Sometimes behind the jokes and cheerfulness on air, we could be arguing with each other off air. But the good thing about it is that it's all work related and by the next song, we'd have gotten over it. And in order to work together as often and as closely as we do, you HAVE to get over your differences. No grudges allowed. Or else, the quality of the show will suffer. And both of us generally have this principle that no matter what goes on off-air, we still need to sound as good and happy as we can once the mics are back on.

What people don't realise - unless they do what we do or are entertainers - is how exhausting it can be after the show because you exert so much energy in order to sound bubbly and positive and happy all the time.

Also, a lot of people are under the assumption that once we're done with our show at 10a.m., we can go home. That's hardly the case. Things are even busier AFTER the show. There are audio clips to edit from that morning's show; we have daily meetings to discuss the next day's show, and we have to prepare our stories and questions for the contests. Sometimes we have meetings outside the office as well or there are assignments that have been given us that we need to complete. And of course in between all that we have breakfast.

And because we wake up so early, our bodies also react differently in the sense that by the time lunch time comes around, we already feel like collapsing in bed.

All in all it's been a rollercoaster of a ride. No regrets. I know one day I will look back and think of all this with fond and bittersweet memories. We got to know our listeners who have supported us all this while and have unknowingly given us the encouragement and the motivation to wake up in the wee hours of the morning to do the show. The only good thing about waking up that early to go to work is there's NO TRAFFIC!

So if you happen to be one of our listeners, we can't thank you enough for letting us keep you company on the long journey to work. We wouldn't have lasted the year without you. HUGS!!!

*Don't forget, this Sat nite, 19th Dec, at Aristo, Zouk KL we will be celebrating our birthday so sms in to win your free invites. RED HAPPY BIRTHDAY and send to 33988.
