Gone in 60 Seconds - Bowled Over

When I found out that I had to go up against Aly (11am - 3pm) for our second Gone in 60 Seconds Challenge, I balked. Bowl??? I can't even remember the last time I bowled! It's been yonks!!!

There was no way out of it. Sunway Mega Lanes @ Sunway Pyramid had so very generously agreed to sponsor an hour for us to do the challenge with our listeners so we had to go through with it. It was our first time there and I must say, their premises are very impressive. Very clean, very professional looking and well-maintained. According to Michelle, the Assistant GM of Sunway Mega Lanes, they are one of the venues of the Commonwealth Games, so naturally, everything has to be spick and span.

Aly and I each had three listeners in our team and the aim was simple. We had 60 seconds to bowl in six lanes. Whoever had the most points won!

To show us how it was done, we had Richard, our "Scottish bowling expert" as JD called him, to show us how exactly it was done. By the time he'd bowled and ran through all 6 lanes, he was huffing and puffing, rather surprised at how tough the challenge was. It sounded easy enough, but apparently it wasn't!

Each of our members then took turns to play, with Aly's team starting off first after she won the "one, two, sum!".

Michelle was there to help tally up the points for us. I tell you, JD, Aly and I were all yelling words of encouragement to our teammates and to "Go! Go! Go!". I think I yelled the loudest, haha! In the end, it was a member of Aly's team, Gabriel, who walked away with the grand prize of 10 free bowling games courtesy of Sunway Mega Lanes with 27 points in total.

Finally, Aly and I had to go head-to-head. After another round of one, two, sum, Aly lost and had to go first. Despite the fact that it was me against her, I found myself rooting her on. It was quite tense to see whether the ball was going to hit the pins or roll into the gutter.

By the time it was my turn, my heart was practically beating out of my chest. I was so nervous!!! But I took my #9 bowling ball and waited for JD to say "Go!". My strategy was to aim straight and run as fast as I could without falling. I didn't even bother to see whether the pins in my lanes fell or not. As soon as I let go one ball, I ran to grab another one and bowl in the next lane and it was like that till I reached the 6th lane. The ball I took was a lot heavier than the ones I had taken that when I got ready to bowl, it slipped out of my hands and rolled backwards! Ack!!! But I heard JD yelling "You still have time!! You still have time!!" So I grabbed another ball, ran to the lane and let the ball loose on the pins. I was so out of breath at the end of it that I could barely talk!

Once again, Michelle added up the points and JD announced the winner... with 38 points, the highest that day....was....

ME!!!!!

I was ecstatic! Especially knowing that that was probably only the third time I've ever bowled in my life! Apparently I wasn't the only one who was surprised I won, haha!

All in all, it was a wonderful day out and a great opportunity to have some fun with our listeners. Thanks once again to Michelle and Sunway Mega Lanes @ Sunway Pyramid for letting us use their facilities on a busy weekend.

What's in store for us in the next challenge? Watch this space! ;) Meantime, here's the video of that day so happy watching!!
