I am SUCH a fan of anything related to interior designing.
In fact, when I was younger, one of the list of things I wanted to be was an interior designer. But look at where I ended up today! Nevertheless, I can still indulge in my love of home décor, ID magazines and renovating and apply it to my own home.
At one point, back when I was still in JB and dreamed of what it must be like to have my own place to call home, I imagined I’d make it look like an Ikea showroom, haha! But thankfully, over time and after having browsed through hundreds of magazines and watched numerous tv shows, and made a trip to Bali, I’ve pretty much figured out what my sense of style is. I like clean lines, wood, greenery, warm colours, texture and a Balinese resort type of style. Modern-ethnic, I suppose you could call it.
I always felt my living room still lacked oomph, so over the weekend I went to Ikano and popped by two of the shops there that were selling Asian home décor. My biggest splurge was at “Natural Home Decor” where I was fascinated by all the different objects they had neatly stacked on shelves, on the floor and on the walls. I recognized items that can be found in Bali and there were also décor from Thailand and all around Asia.
I was happy to see that they had the woven place mats I was looking high and low for so I bought those…
Then I noticed a very interesting looking container carved from wood and I took that. The owner, Cha, recommended that I fill them up with flowers or coloured balls made from wood shavings – so I opted for the balls and now it’s sitting pretty on my coffee table atop one of the place mats I bought…
Then I spotted the table decorations on a shelf above me and was taken with one of them – it was round with a square cut into the middle. It reminded me of the old coins that I remember seeing in my history books back in school. Turns out, displaying such items will encourage money coming in, according to Cha. I bought it cos I liked how it looked - and I think it looks pretty good on the shelf above my living room couch! I'm planning to get another one in a different shape and colour now...
One of my favourite items would have to be the set of candle stands that were made from stone and volcanic rock. They had a very nice weight to them and again, I just loved the shape of it so I snapped them up. And now they look lovely on my side table!
I figured I’d done enough shopping at that one place so then I decided to pop by Red Envelope just a few shops away. I originally planned to go there in the first place coz I had my eye on their wooden candle stand. and since I have a thing for vanilla-scented candles, I bought one and it looks like a great combination! I had just the place for it – near the entrance. And I’m so happy with it, I’m planning to buy another one!
I've made up a new list of things to buy and now I can't wait for my next shopping trip! :)
