I LOVE massages.
I’m relatively new to them. I started getting into them only last year after going around doing 2 and ½ months of Shake Our Hand to Win 10 Grand. By the end of it all, my body was in pain, my back was hurting, my shoulders were tense…. I needed all that to go away.
So, a friend of mine introduced me to… Thai massages...
Currently, two of my favourite places to go are Thai Odyssey and Urban Retreat. I don’t go as often as I’d like – maybe once a month or once every 2 months. Whatever it is, whenever I feel extra lethargic and my neck and shoulders are feeling tense, I know it’s time for a massage.
Just stepping into their warm and inviting outlets and smelling the essential oils gives me a delicious thrill. I love the subtle sounds of their water features and the soothing, calming notes of their music. The mood lighting instantly relaxes me and I feel a sense of anticipation of what’s to come. It’s an experience for all the senses, including taste, as they usually serve you hot ginger tea.
The staff always speak softly and yet they find everything funny. Seriously! Each time they press on a knot in my muscle, and I let out a satisfactory groan, the masseuse will giggle. And it happens all the time! These days I’ve been going for the one hour aromatherapy full body massages. I’ll walk out feeling a little light-headed and thoroughly relaxed, a lopsided smile on my face. Most of the time, I’m sorry the experience is over.
Last week I decided to go for the head, neck and shoulder massage at Urban Retreat and what a treat it was! The masseuse put pressure on ALL the right places. It was SO good. And it was an hour long. Aaah... bliss!
I have to admit something though. My feet are ridiculously ticklish. I can’t even touch my own feet without bursting out into peals of laughter! I’ve realized though that it’s the touch that matters. And that’s happened so many times when the masseuse is washing my feet… they always have a gentle touch, and that tickles me. I need to tell them to have a firmer hold. Somehow, I can take it when they do. Sometimes.
At least now, though, I’m not as scared of having my feet massaged as I used to. I feel a sense of wonder though when I see others having their feet and legs massaged and they don’t flinch.
Hmmm…. All this talk of massages… I think my neck feels a bit stiff… methinks I could do with a massage after this!
