TRX Suspension Training

I was warned before but I didn’t believe it until now – you put on weight when doing the Breakfast Show.

And so I’ve been attempting – although not as diligently as I should be – to lose the extra weight. And before you think “What weight??”, lemme just say that I can’t fit into my pants anymore. And I don’t want to keep having to buy bigger clothes just to hide my ever expanding tummy and behind. Thanks to Rodney, a fitness trainer with Clark Hatch, I was introduced to TRX Suspension Training.

It might not look like much with its ropes hanging from the ceiling, but by the end of the workout, I guarantee you’ll be dripping with sweat and you’ll feel like you’ve just run the marathon!

What makes this workout so effective is that you’re working against your own body weight and gravity and you’re practically using all the parts of your body – your arms, your legs, butt and core.. and it’s not boring because there are so many different moves that you can do. Couple that with some pumping music and you’ll find that one hour has gone by just like that. Plus it’s a low-impact type of exercise and you can go at your own pace, which is nice. In fact, depending on your stamina, you can opt for alternative moves ranging from “Yeah ok… I can do this” to full-on “I can’t take this anymore!!!” – they pretty much work out the same areas, it’s just certain moves will be harder and more effective than others.

I went for two classes in the space of a week – a beginner’s class on Sat and an intensive class on Tuesday – and although I felt like I could barely move during the next couple of days, it was well worth it. My tummy looked slightly flatter and my butt felt firmer. I could especially feel the muscle pain in my arms, particularly the triceps which is good coz I’ve a fear of flabby arms. Imagine how much fitter and toned I could be if I discipline myself?? Rodney says I just need to go at least once a week for TRX.

I’ve been so pumped up about TRX that I’ve been telling my fellow colleagues about it and have even roped them in for a trial class this Sunday courtesy of CHI Fitness, PJ Trade Centre. It’s going to be fun!
