Bazaar Ramadhan - TTDI

I really like the Taman Tun area. It's so close to One Utama and it's near the amazing Kiara Park. There's a Maybank nearby, lots of shoplots, I even took salsa classes at Havana Estudio. And the pasar malam was so near to where I lived at the time in Jalan Abang Haji Openg. Now, every day during the fasting month, you can find the bazaar Ramadhan. To be honest, I wasn't expecting much but let me tell you, I was pleasantly surprised... so far this is the first bazaar I've been to that sold roasted lamb!

Satay...

Beef, chicken or lamb?

Freshly made fried popiah! Nice big size too...

Apam balik! Another one of my faves!

I ordered the one Apam Balik Jagung Special - ground nuts & sugar, margerine and corn. I asked for extra crispy. Yummy! Crispy on the outside and soft and sweet on the inside, I enjoyed it for my buka puasa. But as I walked further on, I saw another man selling apam balik out of his van/truck and I noticed he was more generous with his corn. Next time I'll look for him!

The Arabs call it "Shawarma", but Malaysians call it "Kebab". And it tastes mighty different too. But if you're a fan of the local version, this pic might tantalise your tastebuds...

My mum and I used to make this for buka puasa back in JB. I forgot what it's called, haha!

Stacks of ayam percik...

Ingredients for rojak....

I see this everywhere ... the Honeyed Chicken Wings. Have yet to try this. Looks good!

Very colourful agar-agar...

Lai Chi Kang, anyone?

I stopped to take a picture of this as two fellas were coating the cakes with chocolate and dividing them into slices...

... it looked so good that I couldn't resist buying a slice myself! And it tastes as good as it looks! Must buy!

Serunding... three different flavours some more. Comes in handy for Raya!

This should warm the "cockles" of your heart!

And here's how they make it...

Wow. Orange coloured corn drink??

Nasi briyani is usually too heavy for me but if you like it, check out this stall...

Nice slivers of fried caramelized onion there...

Yummy curry!

and whatever else you want to add - beef rendang, ayam masak merah, acar...

There's even sweet corn on the grill! Haven't seen this anywhere else yet...

Nasi goreng ayam... a regular feature at the bazaars...

Here's something else that's new to see - acah pekasam! Preserved fish fried with onion and chilli - squeeze a slice of lime over it and eat it with rice. Delish!

It's an acquired taste though but I bought one for myself and my cousin and I love the stuff!

This stall had a whole stretch of drinks! One of the biggest I've seen in one stall...

Kuih bakar....

Watermelons!

And enticing little containers of creme caramel... great for dessert!

JD bought a packet of char kuey teow basah from him. It smelled reaaaaal good!

Bazaar Ramadhan Taman Tun gets 4.5 out of 5 on the lemang scale thanks to it's variety...

Bazaar Ramadhan - Kampung Sg. Penchala

We said we would and we did. We turned up at the Bazaar Ramadhan in Kampung Sg. Penchala to check out what they have to offer in terms of buka puasa fare. Well, there has to be at least one roti john stall...

... and this murtabak stall seemed to be having good business coz of the long line of people who turned up...

... I didn't have as much patience to wait, so I decided to get my murtabak from these ladies...

... this looked good too. The smell of roasted chicken permeated the air... someone needs to tell them pepper isn't spelled "papper" though...

What beauties!

Great to have with your nasi campur....

More chicken! I see these everywhere! I have to make it a point to try them out one of these days...

These are common sights as well... fried rice, fried mee....

Apparently the samosas are pretty good...

Lots of stuff on sticks.... sausages, crab, fishballs, sotong balls....

...fried chicken nuggets, wantan, etc...

... and something called ice-cream ketam so called coz they were crab nuggets on an ice-cream stick.

Forgot what the Chinese name for this was but it's called Bishop's Nose in English...I look at these and think "buntut ayam on a stick". I've been told they taste good. I'll just take their word for it.

Ooh! Stuffed chillis! Something I don't normally see...

Drinks galore...

I bought one of these coconuts and took it home, only to realise I didn't have the proper means to open it. :(

More colourful drinks! Looks good!

If you run out of dates to buka puasa with, you know where to go to buy more!

Tau foo faa...

You can have dadih for dessert too...

Some of those nata de cocoa drinks...

Gula melaka! Yum...

You can drink these as is or turn them into ice-cream, just like the good ol' days!

But THESE were what I was looking for that day....

Putu piring!

Here's something I never expected to see at a bazaar Ramadhan - petai??

... under which they also had quails eggs.

Something else I don't normally come across is this - people selling cow innards and turning them into soup...

All in all, the bazaar at Kg. Sg. Penchala was rather small and its saving grace were the few items I found to be different. So JD & I give it 3 out of 5 on the lemang scale...
